EL SABOR RICO
DE LA JEFITA
From a stand selling fruit cups and antojitos in her hometown of Mexico City to a hidden-away food truck in Northwest Portland, Margarita Martinez is no stranger to street food.
She moved to Portland in 2000, but it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic that she began to carve out a space of her own in the city’s food scene. Initially selling out of her house, she soon leveled up to catering gigs and farmers markets — slinging steamed tacos and aguas frescas at weddings and school events.
In October 2024, not long after Martinez was diagnosed with cancer, she took the leap and opened A Comer, a standalone Mexican food cart just off Northwest Thurman Street.
